My painting practice uses abstraction and mixed media to map the internal experience of trudging through contemporary anxiety.
This work arose from visual meditations on a happy place: my grandparents’ Tucson backyard, a home that has since been sold and out of our family for many years. It’s still, however, a location I can access every inch of in my memories, from the terra cotta slabs out back to the cacti jungle hosting cadres of javelinas and roadrunners. This space as it was, now only existing in the astral plane, has become my tether to deeper meditation and spiritual channeling practices. Deliberate, immediate brushstrokes and spilled forms mimic my process in wading through feeling to access memory, and pinpointing memory to define feeling.
