My painting practice uses abstraction and mixed media to map the internal experience of trudging through contemporary anxiety.
Arid comes from years of family reunion trips to Southern Arizona, amid javelinas, rock formations, and prickly pear cactus, which abruptly stopped following the death of my grandfather. This painting explores the specific way that intense memory fades in chunks, bleached out in parts, like too much sun on old photographs. Warm ochre and terracotta wash across the canvas in broad, weathered strokes, cut through by a band of denim blue and stubborn banks of white.
